How to start an interval timer with Siri or the Action Button

Start a saved workout with your voice, one press or a tap on the back of your iPhone

What you can say to Siri

  • “Start a timer in Cero”: Siri asks which saved timer.
  • “Start a custom timer in Cero”: choose work seconds, rest seconds and sets on the spot, without saving anything.
  • “Pause my timer in Cero”, “Resume my timer in Cero” and “Stop my timer in Cero”.

Put a timer on the Action Button

  1. Open Settings and tap Action Button.
  2. Swipe to Shortcut, then tap Choose a Shortcut.
  3. Find Cero and choose Start Timer or Start Custom Timer.
  4. Press and hold the Action Button to start your workout.

The Action Button is on iPhone 15 Pro and later models. To start one particular timer, make a shortcut for it first, as below, and choose that instead.

Make a shortcut for one timer

  1. Open the Shortcuts app and create a shortcut.
  2. Add Cero’s Start Timer action and choose your timer.
  3. Name it, for example Morning HIIT. Siri can now run it by name, and the Action Button and Back Tap can too.

Or tap the back of your iPhone

Back Tap runs a shortcut when you tap the back of your iPhone two or three times. In Settings, go to Accessibility, Touch, Back Tap, and choose your Cero shortcut.

Cero is free to download for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.

Cero is a timer, not a medical device. If you’re new to hard exercise, are pregnant or have a health condition, check with your doctor first, and stop if you feel unwell.
